About Us
Introducing Myfolks...
Myfolks is a family-run business, providing support to those you love the most at the press of a button. We support over-stretched families who are struggling to support elderly loved ones to stay in their own homes. Our population is ageing, but not always well and our public services are in turmoil, so there are fewer resources to call on when you're caring for ageing parents. Keeping our loved ones well in their own homes is so beneficial for everyone, but it isn't easy.
Louise, the founder of Myfolks and her family understand this well. They were in exactly that position, caring for two elderly parents who lived 325 miles away. The help her parents wanted was simple, but frequent: "the TV isn't working", "what does this letter mean?", "could you take me to x appointment?", "we've nothing for dinner".... Louise needed someone she could call on to fulfil those needs when she and her brother couldn't be there. She wanted to be able to send someone, via an app or a phone call, whenever she needed to, usually at pretty short notice. It didn't exist that way and so Louise created Myfolks, the name chosen to honour her parents and convey how important this service is to families like hers.
And now we are operating around the UK (quite literally, we are focusing most on the coastal areas, where the towns and cities are particularly lacking in resources, but we will become national and international), providing that pair of compassionate extra hands to help out. Someone said of us "it's like you become an extension of the family". We couldn't be more pleased to hear that. We are always professional, but it is such a relief to families to be able to talk about their challenges and learn from our experiences, as well as knowing their loved ones are being supported.
Our Myfolksers, those special people who provide our service, are enhanced DBS checked and fully vetted. They also must be compassionate and really want to spend time properly engaging and connecting with those we provide the service to. We pay them well because we recognise the value of the work they do.
It was only after our work started that we began to learn more about the issues behind those requests from our elderly family members for support - their need for social connection. Social isolation is as dangerous as smoking 15 cigarettes per day and leads to a 32% increased risk of cardiovascular disease and increased risk of other illnesses. Myfolks is doing important work to encourage social health and is involved in various research activities in this regard.
As we say your folks are Myfolks.
